يون هاي سديم در داخل سلول به جايگاه خود در پمپ سديم/پتاسيم متصل ميشوند.

شكل پمپ تغير ميكند و در نتيجه يونهاي سديم به بيرون رانده ميشوند. يونهاي پتاسيم در خارج سلول به جايگاه خود در پمپ سديم/پتاسيم متصل ميشوند.
يونهاي سديم آزاد ميشوند و در همين زمان يونهاي پتاسيم به درون سلول انتقال مييابند.
يونهاي پتاسيم آزاد ميشوند و چرخه ديگري آغاز ميشود.
